On the first leg of the 2022 Hot Rod Power Tour our 1973 AMC Hornet was hit by a dumpdruck – we made lemonade out of lemons, hammered and pulled out what we could, and finished the tour, collecting signatures on the damaged parts along the way. By the end of PowerTour I was totally cooked; we blew an air shock somewhere in Kentucky or Ohio, and limped the rest of the way to my dad’s house in Metro-Detroit where I left the car and tried to forget about it.

Well, the insurance company for the dump truck driver sent an adjuster to look at the car, and now its time for me to get it to a shop for estimate so we can start collecting parts and get this thing put back together. Driving it is bittersweet – I love the car, but its current state is just a huge bummer (which is why I left it in Detroit for a month and a half) – I know we’ll get it squared away, just not stoked about not being able to use it, again.
